Occupational health surveillance

Occupational health surveillance starts with advice.

TN Preventus supports occupational health surveillance under ArbMedVV: mandatory, offered and employee-requested surveillance appropriate to the work and risk assessment. Radiation-protection surveillance under the Radiation Protection Ordinance is excluded.

Which activities can trigger surveillance?

The ArbMedVV annex distinguishes four groups. These examples are not exhaustive. Whether mandatory or offered surveillance applies depends on the relevant conditions and risk assessment.

  • Hazardous substances For example dust, solvents or wet work.
  • Biological agents For example work involving infection risks.
  • Physical agents For example noise, vibration, heat or cold.
  • Other activities For example display-screen work or wearing certain respirators.

Mandatory, offered and requested surveillance

Mandatory surveillance is arranged for activities covered by the relevant provisions. Offered surveillance must be offered when the relevant circumstances apply; employees decide whether to attend. Requested surveillance provides advice at an employee’s request where work-related harm cannot be ruled out.

DGUV Regulation 2 defines organisational support

DGUV Regulation 2 defines occupational medical and safety support for organisations, not a surveillance catalogue. The applicable version of the competent accident insurance institution matters. Specific surveillance occasions follow from ArbMedVV and its conditions.

Surveillance is not a fitness assessment

Surveillance provides confidential advice about work-related health risks; it does not automatically determine fitness. Fitness assessments, including offshore assessments under AWMF or OEUK, are considered separately. TN Preventus does not offer radiation-protection surveillance under the Radiation Protection Ordinance.

What your organisation can prepare

Prepare the job description, risk assessment and organisational reason for contact. Medical information is not collected in the enquiry form. We agree a suitable location and confidential exchange personally.
